Dr. Yevhen Pavelko, MD, FASMBS
Dr. Yevhen Pavelko is an accomplished, board-certified surgeon recognized internationally for his expertise in minimally invasive, bariatric, and foregut surgery, with a special focus on robotic surgery and advanced hernia repair techniques.
A pioneer in the robotic SP (single-port) platform, Dr. Pavelko was among the first surgeons in the world to perform robotic single-port ventral hernia and rectus diastasis repair using the SP eTEP technique — a breakthrough approach that minimizes pain, improves cosmetic outcomes, and accelerates patient recovery.
Dr. Pavelko’s surgical practice focuses on bariatric and metabolic surgery, foregut and reflux disease, and gastric and esophageal cancers. His extensive experience includes robotic sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, hiatal hernia repair, revisional bariatric surgery, stomach cancer and complex abdominal wall reconstruction.
He serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), where he is actively involved in training residents and fellows in advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques. Under his direction, UIC continues to build its reputation as a Center of Excellence in Bariatric and Foregut Surgery, combining innovation, education, and compassionate patient care.
Dr. Pavelko has performed over 1,000 robotic operations and has been recognized for his contributions to advancing single-port and multi-quadrant robotic surgery. His work integrates the latest in surgical technology with a deeply patient-centered approach.
In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Pavelko is a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS) and an active contributor to the global surgical community through scientific publications, lectures, and live surgical demonstrations.
